First-use fitting & operation

Shift Moonwalkers

Use this quick-start guide together with the current manufacturer manual and training materials.

Fit & adjust
  • Use compatible closed-toe shoes and secure each Moonwalker firmly with the straps.
  • Download the Shift app/ShiftOS resources and complete the official tutorial before powered walking.
  • Confirm both units are correctly oriented and secure before leaving LOCK/training setup.
Operate & learn
  • Start on a flat open surface, walk slowly and use Training mode while learning the response.
  • Increase pace gradually; the system responds to gait, so avoid abrupt experimentation.
  • Learn stopping/deceleration and calibration procedures before business or public use.
Care, charging & storage
  • Charge with the approved charger/USB-C setup and inspect wheels, straps and housings before use.
  • Keep the units away from immersion; avoid puddles when possible and store indoors.
  • Use app updates and troubleshooting/error guidance from Shift support.
First-use safety
  • Avoid stairs/escalators and uncontrolled surfaces during use/training.
  • Maintain space for stopping and do not learn in traffic or dense crowds.
  • If error indications occur, stop and follow the current Shift troubleshooting guide.

EVIDENCE-BASED PRODUCT GUIDE

Shift Moonwalkers: what to know before you choose

Radventurers separates manufacturer-published specifications, independent reviews and research, and public field research so you can see where each statement comes from.

Manufacturer-published information

  • Current original Moonwalkers specifications list 7 mph top speed, about 7 miles average range, 5.3 lb weight per unit, 8-wheel drivetrain, 10° maximum slope and IPX4 water resistance.
  • Moonwalkers Aero is listed at 4.2 lb, 7 mph top speed, about 7 miles average range and a quieter 4-wheel powertrain.
  • Shift describes a gait-based AI controller, flexing toeplate and automatic acceleration/deceleration behavior.

Published reviews & research

  • The Verge reported the Aero redesign is lighter and quieter while retaining 7 mph top speed and roughly seven-mile advertised range.
  • A 2025 New York Post hands-on found the footwear took acclimation because of weight and unusual feel, but described automatic stride response and fast urban movement once the reviewer adjusted.

Limitations & questions to evaluate

  • Requires training and acclimation
  • Surface conditions materially affect safety
  • Not appropriate for stairs while powered unless manufacturer guidance expressly permits
  • IPX4 is splash resistance, not immersion protection
  • Weight on each foot can feel substantial initially
