The Best e-Bike Trail Is Not Always the Hardest One

When people talk about the “best” bike trails in America, the conversation usually goes straight to the extreme stuff.

The steepest climb.
The longest route.
The wildest descent.
The trail that makes your legs question every life choice that brought you there.

That has its place. I respect it.

But after years of riding, guiding, teaching, exploring, and watching people discover e-bikes for the first time, I have learned something simple:

The best trail is not always the hardest trail.

Sometimes the best trail is the one where a family can ride together without someone getting left behind.

Sometimes it is the trail where a retired rider gets back outside after years of thinking those days were gone.

Sometimes it is the paved path along a river, the rail trail through the trees, the canyon ride with just enough elevation to feel alive, or the coastal route where every turn makes you slow down and say, “Look at that.”

That is the kind of riding I wanted to celebrate in my new book, Ride America: The BEST e-Bike Trails Coast to Coast.

E-Bikes Changed What Adventure Can Look Like

E-bikes have opened the door for a lot of people.

They help riders go farther. They help people keep up with friends and family. They make hills less intimidating. They make travel more exciting. They give people a reason to explore places they might have driven past a hundred times without noticing.

And maybe most importantly, they make outdoor adventure feel possible for more people.

That is something I care about deeply through my work with Radventurers.

For me, e-biking has never just been about the bike. It is about access. It is about confidence. It is about discovering trails, towns, parks, overlooks, and quiet little corners of America that are easy to miss when life is moving too fast.

A good e-bike trail does not need to punish you to be memorable.

It needs to make you want to keep going.

What Makes a Great e-Bike Trail?

When I look at trails, I do not just ask, “Is it beautiful?”

That matters, of course. We all want the view. We all want that moment where the trail opens up and the world feels bigger than it did five minutes ago.

But for e-bike riders, especially newer riders, families, travelers, and group riders, there are a few things that matter just as much.

A great e-bike trail should feel approachable. You should not need to be a professional cyclist to enjoy it.

It should have scenery worth remembering. Mountains, rivers, lakes, coastlines, forests, red rocks, city skylines, historic towns, or peaceful open space.

It should be ride worthy. Not just a random path on a map, but a route that actually feels like an experience.

It should be practical enough to plan around. Parking, access points, trail surfaces, distance, and whether the ride makes sense for the people you are bringing with you.

And it should have that one thing you cannot always measure.

The feeling.

That moment when everyone in the group is smiling. The moment when someone who was nervous at the start says, “I could do this again.” The moment when the trail becomes more than exercise and turns into a memory.

Why Group Rides Matter

One of the best things about e-bikes is how they bring different people together.

Traditional cycling can sometimes separate people by fitness level. One person wants to go fast. Someone else is worried about hills. Another person has not ridden in years. Someone else wants a casual pace and a good place to stop for lunch.

E-bikes help close that gap.

They make group rides more inclusive. Parents can ride with adult kids. Grandparents can ride with families. Friends with different fitness levels can share the same route. Travelers can explore a new city or park without needing to train for it like they are entering the Tour de France.

That is the magic.

A great e-bike route is not just about where it takes you. It is about who you can bring with you.

The Trail Is the Invitation

A lot of people want more adventure in their life, but they do not always know where to start.

They may have the bike. They may have the helmet. They may have the desire.

What they are missing is direction.

Where do I ride?
What trails are worth traveling for?
What routes are scenic but not overwhelming?
Where can I take my family?
Where can I plan a weekend ride?
Where can I go that feels special?

That is why I created Ride America: The BEST e-Bike Trails Coast to Coast.

I wanted to give riders a guide that points them toward trails worth experiencing. Not just for hardcore cyclists, but for everyday riders, travelers, families, new e-bike owners, and people looking for their next outdoor adventure.

This book is for the person who wants to stop saying, “We should ride more someday,” and finally start planning the ride.

Ride America Is Now Live

I am proud to share that my new book, Ride America: The BEST e-Bike Trails Coast to Coast, is officially live on Amazon.

It was created to help riders discover scenic, enjoyable, e-bike friendly trails across the country and build a bigger bucket list of places to ride.

Whether you are planning a road trip, looking for group ride ideas, searching for beginner friendly routes, or just dreaming about where your e-bike can take you next, I hope this book helps you find that next trail.

One Question for Riders

I would also love to hear from you.

What is one trail you think every e-bike rider should experience at least once?

It can be a famous route, a hidden gem, a local favorite, a family ride, a rail trail, a canyon path, a lake loop, or a peaceful stretch of pavement that just feels right.

Because the truth is, the best trails in America are not only found on maps.

They are found in the stories riders tell after they get back.

Stay rad my friends. Stay safe. Cheers!
