Can You Stay Active With Joint Pain? Here’s What I’ve Learned

One of the hardest parts about dealing with joint pain isn’t always the pain itself.

It’s the feeling that your world keeps getting smaller.

Maybe you stop hiking because the trail feels too demanding. Maybe you stop running because your knees don’t recover the way they used to. Maybe you pass on family activities because you’re worried about how you’ll feel afterward.

Over time, it’s easy to believe that slowing down is your only option.

I’ve been there.

After years of injuries, surgeries, and countless appointments with healthcare professionals, I found myself asking a different question.

Instead of asking, “How do I stop moving?”

I started asking, “How can I keep moving safely for as long as possible?”

That simple shift changed everything.

Movement looks different for everyone. For one person, staying active might mean hiking a mountain. For someone else, it might mean walking through the neighborhood without feeling exhausted or keeping up with their grandchildren at the park.

The goal isn’t to compare yourself to someone else.

The goal is to keep doing the things that make life enjoyable.

That’s one of the reasons I created Radventurers Mobility Lab.

Radventurers CO is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

I wanted a place where people could explore the future of mobility without unrealistic promises or sales pressure. A place where new technologies could be demonstrated honestly, where questions could be answered openly, and where people could experience emerging mobility solutions for themselves.

Today, companies around the world are developing wearable mobility technologies that are changing how we think about movement. Some systems are designed to support physically demanding work. Others are built for outdoor recreation or walking. Some are powered, while others use lightweight mechanical designs to assist specific movements.

Every technology has strengths and limitations, and not every solution is right for every person. That’s why education matters.

At Radventurers Mobility Lab, I’m committed to documenting real-world experiences instead of relying on marketing claims. I’ll be sharing what works, what doesn’t, what surprises me, and what I learn from experts, businesses, and everyday people who are exploring these technologies alongside me.

I’ll also continue sharing my own Return to 43 journey.

This isn’t about trying to turn back the clock.

It’s about finding practical ways to keep living an active life.

If you’ve been told to slow down, I understand.

If you’re looking for ways to keep moving, you’re not alone.

The future of mobility isn’t about replacing determination.

It’s about giving determination better tools.

I believe we’re only beginning to see what’s possible.

Thank you for following this journey with me, and welcome to Radventurers Mobility Lab, where we’re exploring the future of human mobility one step at a time.
